Guilt: Take Control of Your Internet Usage
Guilt is a Chrome add-on developed by diiq that aims to help users manage their internet usage. With Guilt, users can train themselves to use the internet only when necessary and in short, focused bursts.
The app prompts users to specify their purpose for going online and allocates a predetermined amount of time, either 5 or 15 minutes, for their task. Once the allocated time is up, Guilt will hide all open tabs and ask if the user has completed their intended task.
If the answer is yes, Guilt will close the tabs, leaving the user with a single distraction-free tab. However, if the answer is no, users have the option to request additional time to continue their work, and all tabs will be accessible again until the next prompt from Guilt.
Similar to a concerned mother, Guilt's questioning nature and log of user answers encourage users to reflect on their internet usage choices and make more mindful decisions.
